FIESTAS OF VALENTÍN
The Fiestas of San Juan Bautista in Valentín take place in the last week of June and they have a great historical tradition since the election of the patron saint of the town is due to the influence of the Order of St. John in these lands until the nineteenth century.
The origin of this festivity is linked to agriculture; in them the harvests were offered to the patron saint after being harvested, giving him thanks for the fruit obtained.
Nowadays, the neighbours make offerings, celebrate masses and walk the saint through the streets of the town.
During the five days prior to the patron saint’s feast day, the religious events begin with the celebration of a solemn mass in his honor in the church.
These festivities are very famous for the traditional bullfight and the running of bulls that takes place between the streets of Amancio Marín and La Doctora, very close to the town square. The streets are enclosed with solid wooden and iron barriers, forming an improvised bullring and guaranteeing the safety of the locals and foreigners who come to Valentín for this event.
