The Carnival of Cehegín, the Carnival of the Northwest
Cehegín Carnival, “el carnaval del noroeste”, (carnival of the northwest), is the most famous of the entire northwest region of Murcia and one of the most entertaining and patronised in the region of Murcia. Every year thousands of people participate in the parades and go to town to enjoy them.
The Carnival of the Northwest is held in February with many activities programmed during those days such as gastronomic, sports, cultural events and concerts all over the city.
The Carnival start on Sunday with the children parade with more than 1.800 participants accompanied by parents and teachers from the schools of the city and all the districts of the area. The day ends with snacks for everyone in a big party full of colour and happiness.
On Tuesday there is a lot of fun in the Martes de Mascarón with the preparation of fried carnival cakes throughout the day for the big Fiesta after midnight (Noche del Reventón).
On Saturday there is a huge Carnival parade with more than 40 groups walking and dancing in the main streets of the city.
