From the 14th to the 22nd of August the district of Canara celebrates their Fiestas in honour of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, commonly known as Virgen de la Peña.

The Virgen de la Peña was the former patron of Cehegín and the sanctuary is located on top of an emblematic hill for all the inhabitants of Canara and Cehegín.

The big day of the festivities is on the 14th of August, a day in which a floral offering to the Patroness will take place followed by a mass and a procession with the image of the Virgin from the Sanctuary to the Church of Canara.

There are also fireworks, a floral offer, children games, traditional music groups, exhibition of local gastronomy, romerias and running of the bulls.
